WOOD GREEN, village, extraparochial area
Tucked into the NW extremity of the New Forest, it is known by this name from the mid 17th century. The wood is 'Godshill Enclosure' which separates the village from the rest of the New Forest; that is named from 'Godshill' in Ashley Walk. 'Green' is a common South Country name for a secondary settlement.
